Disability Insurance can often be a daunting topic for some. Especially people who know nothing about it. Yet, as overwhelming as it may be, having Disability Insurance is incredibly important. It has a wealth of benefits if you are ever injured/sick/disabled and can’t work to earn an income. This type of insurance can be lengthy to learn about, which unfortunately, discourages people from investing in it to protect their future.
Over the years, I have learned that people tend to like quick bits of information. So, I have compiled some Do’s and Dont’s of Disability Insurance. These are brief, yet very important points to keep in mind when diving into this type of essential insurance.
-Read your policy in it’s entirety & ask all of your questions.
-Fully understand the terminology used in the policy.
-Tell the truth on your insurance application.
-Be patient during the underwriting process. This often often takes several weeks to find out if you will be given coverage.
-Invest in a Supplemental Disability Insurance policy if you get a Disability Insurance policy through your employer.
-Work with an experienced advisor.
-Skip out the medical exam part of the application process.
-Lie to the agent/advisor about your financial situation.
-Fully rely on insurance plans through your employer; they are often full of “holes” and don’t completely protect you.
